Light winds affect Laser European Championships

Laser Standard & Radial European Championships - Team GBR - Light winds affect Laser European Championships
CARTAGENA, SPAIN / SPLIT, CROATIA-(8-8-2005) Day two of the Laser European Championships was affected by light winds. The Laser fleet sailing out of Cartogena, Spain completed one race before retiring due to a dying sea breeze. The day started off with fluctuating winds, and with place changes across the board there were several frustrated sailors. Paul Goodison finished the race in a strong third place while Mark Powell followed up with a fifth. Racing continues through until 12 August 2005. More information and results for the Laser European Championships can be found on www.cartagena2005.com.

Iain Percy and Steve Mitchell got back into their boat to compete in the first day of racing in the Star European Championships in Varberg, Sweden. Star sailors had light winds for much of the day with the breeze dropping off to as low of three knots. Percy and Mitchell managed the conditions well and finished the day with a third and a fifth. Andy Beadsworth and David Carr had a trying day gaining and losing ground throughout the two races. The pair finished in fifteenth place overall. More information and results can be found on the event website www.vss.org.se/em/index.htm.

Racing in the Tornado European Championships got underway although the second race was abandoned after light winds dropped to a low of three knots. With patchy winds throughout the day, sailors struggled to get the results they desired. Leigh McMillan and Will Howden finished in thirteenth place followed by fellow Team GBR members Hugh Styles and Alistair Richadson in twenty eighth and Rob Wilson and Mark Bulkeley in thirty fourth. Further results can be viewed on www.multihullsweden.com.

The Laser Radial European Championships were called off today due to lack wind. Racing will resume tomorrow 9 August 2005. More information and results for the Laser Radial European Championships can be found on www.euroradial2005.com.
